We’ll be supporting Portugal. The Man in the Academy 2 in Dublin this Saturday.
Love playing Dublin.
Go get em!
Songwriting thing going good! not quite a song a day but averaging 1 every 2 days. Thats about 10000x my usual rate I think…
At this point, I’m feeling like all you need to write music is perspective, coherence and authenticity.
I’ve just started a bit of a writing experiment. I’m trying to write one song a day before my next studio session later this month.
My songs mostly take ages to come together fully and usually involve some kind of personal challenge. I wrestle with things a bit and in that way each song has become a bit of a milestone. I feel like the time is right to become a bit more instinctive and less epochal in the way I approach the music. That’s the new spirit, and I suppose this bunch of songs will hopefully be their own epoch. (feeling a bit Corbusian / geeky!)
I’m aiming to capture a new concept every day and push it through to some form of completion before I become detached… like really fresh orange juice or something. The tricky bit will be finding the inspirado, I think. (always record!)
So in theory I’ll have 30 songs by the end of the month… we’ll see. So far I have one!
I think it may be working though… I’ve been into the pit and back!
That was amazing! such fun with Darwin and Totally Enormous Extinct Dinosaurs. Feeling the love all round. Blog to come with a few stories as I can remember them and there’s a heap of footage knocking about, ready to be edited and shared with you all!
Highlights include trying to speak German and driving on the wrong side of the road.
We didn;t make SXSW in the end. Visa issues, one of many bands to suffer. It’s a bit of a mad process. I will perhaps share the goss on that one at some point. I first will have to resolve within myself, whether or not it is appropriate to do so.
Such a shame, but no fear, we shall make it to the US someday!
instead of soaking up the sun in Texas this week I have been writing some of my Darkest material. I have gone into the pit people. Today I managed to squeeze in a Mahler sample into it – yes, how cultured of me. I thought it was dark before….
Lots of exciting things on the cards which will be revealed soon.
South by SouthWest (SXSW) takes place from March 16th-20th in Austin, Texas. The list of bands playing at the festival has recently been announced. We’ll be in good company over there with fellow NI peeps, General Fiasco and Lafaro.
The list of this year’s Irish bands are:
James Vincent McMorrow
Kormac’s Big Band
Rams’ Pocket Radio
The Lost Brothers
The Mighty Stef
All works out quite nicely as we’ll have a day off after our Tour of UK and Germany with Darwin Deez then off to the US for a week of intense gigging(/sunshine?).
Ric, Ryan, Shauna and myself are really looking forward to it. I’ve never been to America before either so it’s great.

Hey all! first post of 2011. happy new year!
2010 was a great year for us, we played a load of great gigs with some really cool bands, wrote and recorded a lots of new material and a heap of other stuff I can’t remember!
In BBC ATL’s run down of Northern irish bands of 2010 we came 4th – the highest newcomer. Very proud to be up there with some great NI bands, and it was a great way to end the year! read more here.
so anyways, 2011 is here and there’s some cool stuff afoot!
We’re pleased to announce that we’ll be supporting Darwin Deez on their tour of UK and Germany in February and March.

Pretty much just finished a busy period of touring. We were travelling about Ireland with Darwin Deez, supported Marina and the Diamonds, our first gig in Glasgow (a great show!) and finished up the Oh Yeah Contenders tour. The Shows were all incredible and the Oh Yeah Contenders CD is doing great, go get it on itunes.
Just finished filming a live track for a BBC TV show going out in February.
Pete will be heading to a studio in Brighton at the end of this week to work with producer, Dave Lynch (Ed Harcourt, Iain Archer, Duke Special etc)
Writing for the first album is nearly complete.
Here’s a few clips:
